FemArt – International Festival of Artists and Activists

FemArt is organized by Artpolis – Art and Community Center since 2013. Founded by artist and activist Zana Hoxha, FemArt is one of the largest feminist festivals in the Balkans, aiming to promote art, activism, feminism, peace, freedom, diversity, solidarity, empathy, and empowerment.

Considering the difficulties faced by women and marginalized groups in Kosovo and the region on a daily basis, rising from these difficulties by confronting and overturning social norms that are passed down through generations.

The diverse program of the FemArt Festival is not only educational but also entertaining, which has managed to attract a diverse audience by providing a complete experience.

The festival mottos over the years, such as “We are not an island,” “Fearless,” “You Lead,” “With Freedom Against Shame,” “Solidarity and Sustainability,” “F… Sexism,” “From Revolution to Evolution,” “Burn Your Fear”, “Sisterhood: In Times of War and Peace”, “Free Your Mind”, etc., were an inspiration and orientation for artists and activists to showcase their creations and to raise or fight current issues. Every year the festival brings together over 200 artists and activists from around the world, presenting their original creations. Besides artists and activists, the festival engages volunteers, youth from all communities in Kosovo, to increase youth participation in the issue of strengthening the role of women in Kosovo and the region and sharing experiences.

Over the years, FemArt has collaborated with other festivals such as Etno Fest, Hapudemia, Dam Festival, Mural Fest, DokuFest, and PrizrenFest and has also been present in other cities like Ferizaj, Mitrovica, Gracanica, etc. In the international level the collaboration took place with WeeToo Festival (Paris, France), Tempora/Contempora (Lecce, Italy), Wow Foundation (London, England), etc. The festival has also built important partnerships with cultural institutions, donors, media, and local businesses, expanding networking and impact in the community.

So far, Artpolis has successfully organized 13 editions of the FemArt Festival, bringing together 2,844 artists and activists from over 45 countries around the world. More than 36,000 audience members have attended 429 diverse events hosted by the FemArt Festival.
