Can women build peace across generations while confronting the weight of war and patriarchy? At FemArt 14, this question brought activists, a professor and a student into a conversation guided by Prof. Vjollca Krasniqi.
The discussion drew on Dialogue after Peace?, a report examining women-led peace dialogues in Kosovo, Colombia and the Philippines. Its message was clear: a peace agreement does not end the work of peace. Women continue that work through listening, care and dialogue in their communities, often without the recognition or support they deserve.
Dzeneta Agović spoke of passing her experience to younger women and of learning to listen to others before peace can be negotiated. Prof. Iliriana Islami urged us to know our history and protect our roots while finding a way forward that does not pass trauma to the next generation. Ružica Simić gave voice to the difficulty of releasing pain carried for a lifetime. Student Erblina Luma spoke with confidence about education and the possibility of a future shaped by young women.
Kosovo’s women have helped open doors in public life, and today’s dialogue honored those who held those doors open through years of struggle. Their courage reminds us that peace is built across generations, one honest conversation and one act of solidarity at a time.
