It is difficult to say when we begin to think. Perhaps thought begins with wonder, with that It is difficult to say when we begin to think. Perhaps thought begins with wonder, with that moment when a child first looks out at the world and asks: What is the night? Where does the light go? What is time? In these first questions lives the desire to understand the world and to find our place within it.
Time and space become part of this experience. Through them, we feel alive, present, “inside” life. Yet the closer we come to the world and to ourselves, the more we realise that there is always something left to discover.
Perhaps this is where the journey into the unknown begins. To embrace the unknown is to approach it with curiosity, attention and courage. On this journey, imagination and dreaming are just as important as experience. Dreams allows us to reach beyond reality. They allow us to reach ahead with our minds and imagine a work of art, a relationship, a society, or a future that we have already begun to shape.
This is where the power of art and feminist activism emerges. The feminist movement has always been driven by women who dared to dream beyond the world as it was; of a mind and body that belong to themselves, of a voice that finds its own space, of a life shaped by choice, of relationships built on equality and care, and of a society where possibilities expand for everyone.
FemArt 14 places art at this threshold of the unknown; between what is and what could be; between memory and the future; between the body that inherits and the body that chooses; between the voice that has been heard and the one still seeking space.
Over six days, we will welcome artists, activists and cultural professionals from Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Greece, Kosovo, Luxembourg, Cyprus, Serbia, Slovenia, Albania and Switzerland. Through theatre, performance, circus, music, film, literature, exhibitions, workshops and conversations, artists and activists create spaces where we can ask, listen, remember, feel and imagine.
In this sense, “Embrace the Unknown” becomes an invitation to explore, to experience and to transform. The unknown emerges as a territory of possibility; a space where we can discover ourselves, encounter one another and imagine new ways of living together. For FemArt, this process is both individual and collective. Our personal experiences meet those of others; memories intersect; voices come together; stories take on new meanings. What begins as an inner feeling can become shared awareness, and then action.
Thus, FemArt 14 invites us to pose the next question and step into the unknown with the curiosity of a child and the dreams of women who dare.
